Summary:
The Nonprofit Policy Director will be responsible for leading and managing the policy development and advocacy efforts of a nonprofit organization operating within the government and public service sector. This role requires expertise in public policy analysis, strategic thinking, and stakeholder engagement to effectively influence decision-making processes and shape policies that align with the organization's mission.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement a comprehensive policy strategy that supports the organization's mission and objectives.
2. Conduct thorough research and analysis of existing and proposed policies impacting the nonprofit sector.
3. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at the local, state, and federal levels, identifying potential impacts on the organization and its constituents.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, board members, and external partners to identify policy priorities and formulate positions on key issues.
5. Build and maintain relationships with government officials, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders to advocate for the organization's policy agenda.
6. Represent the organization at public forums, hearings, and meetings to present policy recommendations and influence decision-making processes.
7. Develop and deliver persuasive written and oral communication materials, including policy briefs, reports, and presentations.
8. Engage in coalition-building activities with other nonprofit organizations and advocacy groups to amplify the organization's policy goals.
9. Monitor and evaluate policy implementation and outcomes, and recommend adjustments to strategies as needed.
10. Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and research relevant to the organization's policy areas.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, law, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Proven experience (X years) in policy development, advocacy, or related roles within the nonprofit sector or government agencies.
3. In-depth knowledge of public policy issues, legislative processes, and regulatory frameworks.
4. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex policy documents and identify their implications.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex policy concepts into clear and concise messages.
6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and nonprofit organizations.
7. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of developing innovative policy solutions.
8. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
9. Experience in public speaking and presenting to diverse audiences.
10. Knowledge of the nonprofit sector, its challenges, and opportunities is highly desirable.
